Mirrored Wardrobes: The Perfect Blend of Style and Function for Your Home

Glass, Sand, Ash and Limestone!

Mirrored wardrobes are super popular at the moment, so let’s dive in.

Despite probably looking into one every day, a lot of people might not even know what a mirror is and how one is made! Basically it starts as just a pane of glass, made of molten sand, soda ash, and limestone. Then, to create the mirrored surface a layer of liquid silver nitrate is applied evenly to the top, followed by a layer of copper and finally a layer of transparent protective paint! You now have a mirror.

Luckily, we at M2M don’t have to involve ourselves in that part of the process. We just source the highest quality parts and work with you to build a wardrobe that enhances your living room or bedroom space to your specification. They are great because they make rooms feel bigger, reduce the need for more hanging or standing mirrors and are easy to clean, among other things.

Types of Mirrored Wardrobes

Mirrored Sliding
Wardrobe Doors

The obvious advantage of a mirrored sliding wardrobe door over a hinged one is for space saving. With a sliding door you don’t need to think about the extra space required for a door to swing out into the room. A sliding door will just slide to the left or right along the wardrobe.

Another advantage of sliding is that there is less risk of accidently slammed door causing a loud noise. All our doors are fitted with soft close mechanisms so are fine for quiet bedroom opening and closing.

Sliding doors actually allow us to use larger door panels too. The fact the door simply slides left or right means they can be taller and wider. You can imagine how impractical such a large hinged door would be!

Hinged Mirrored
Wardrobe Doors

While sliding doors are the most popular option at the moment, the hinged mirrored wardrobe does have some advantages in certain situations. Hinged wardrobes allow a full view of the contents all at once, open both or all 4 doors and you can see all the items. With a sliding door you can only ever view half really.

Hinged doors can work better in small or oddly shaped areas as a sliding door generally needs to be an ordinary 4 sided rectangle shape. Although we can do some amazing things to create storage in spaces you might think it’s impossible, give us a call and we’re sure we can come up with a plan.

Things like hooks can be put on the inside of hinged doors to allow things to hang, visible when you open it.

Benefits of Mirrored Wardrobes

Hang a mirror anywhere and the illusion of more space will be created in that room. Bars and restaurants use the effect to make their public areas appear larger. It’s true that fitting wardrobes in a room will take up some space, but you can offset that somewhat by using a mirrored door on the wardrobe.

A mirror creates an illusion of depth, effectively doubling the visual depth of the room. Perfect for small bedrooms or compact apartments. But, also, even in a large room the effect works.

Mirrors reflect light. Light makes rooms much nicer to be in. Light rooms are places you are likely to want to spend time. Natural light is the best light and a mirror will take what comes into that room and spread it around more. We’ve all been in a rooms with small windows that are facing the wrong way to get much natural light, they’re not as welcoming as rooms with floods of natural light.

Mirrors, in any room, will improve this. A mirrored wardrobe door serves a dual purpose that is often overlooked. Fit a full length mirror and you probably don’t need to think about another mirror for that room as that job is already done! Save space, save money as your mirror needs are already taken care of!

Here’s one that i bet you haven’t heard about before – Mirrors are actually good for your babies development! Here’s the science bit.

Space-Saving Design

We are a nation with a lot of people and not a lot of room. Our houses, in comparison to some countries, do tend to be built small. One reason mirrored, sliding wardrobes are popular here is the space saving aspect. The mirror means you don’t need to hang another mirror, and the sliding feature means you don’t need to account for a door swinging out into the room.

Modern Appeal

Using a mirror is sleek and minimalist. This design fits well with modern interiors, making them a favourite in UK home décor trends especially in new builds. The UK customer is discerning, stylish and has their eye on the latest trends.

How to Incorporate Mirrored Wardrobes into Your Home

Small Bedrooms

People often come to us and say they want more storage space in their bedroom but don’t want to sacrifice too much space. Mirrored sliding wardrobes are the perfect solution for these requests. By incorporating mirrors into the wardrobe design, not only do they provide ample storage for clothes and accessories, but they also create the illusion of more space, making even the smallest bedrooms feel open and airy. The reflection of natural light helps brighten up tight spaces, giving the room a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.

Another common comment we hear is, “I don’t have space for a full-length mirror.” In small bedrooms, it’s often difficult to find the floor space for an additional standing mirror, and wall space is often limited as it’s taken up with art or other furniture. Mirrored wardrobe doors solve this problem by combining storage with a built-in full-length mirror, allowing people to make the most out of every inch of their room. This dual functionality is one of the main reasons mirrored wardrobes have become so popular in compact bedrooms.

Dressing Rooms

Customers going for a full dressing room install often want to achieve that boutique feel, providing both practicality and elegance. Mirrors add a sense of modernity to the room while also offering the perfect surface for checking outfits from head to toe. The result is a dressing area that feels spacious and stylish. Perfectly tailored for getting ready in comfort.

Hallways

It’s common for people to want their hallways to be more functional without compromising on style. Hallways can easily become cluttered with shoes, coats, and other items, and mirrored wardrobes provide a nice solution to this issue. You get  practical storage for keeping everything neatly tucked away, but the mirrors help reflect light and create the illusion of a wider, more open space—making even the narrowest of hallways feel more welcoming and less cramped.

We also hear clients say, “I wish my hallway felt less dark and more inviting.” Mirrored wardrobes are often the upgrade needed to achieve this effect. Hallways are quite often dark due to their location in the house, by reflecting natural and artificial light, they help brighten it up.
