Opening Up a Compact Stanway Master Bedroom with custom, Floor-to-Ceiling Joinery and Integrated TV Niche
Project Overview: Stanway master bedroom Transformation

Design, Manufacture, and Install
The Stanway Expansion
Bespoke cabinetry isn’t always just about the furniture itself; sometimes, it’s about remodeling the room’s architecture to unlock hidden potential. This case study focuses on a master bedroom renovation in Stanway, Colchester (Essex), where the client’s existing setup—a basic, small cupboard—wasted vital square footage in an otherwise spacious room.
Made2Measure Interiors was commissioned not only to build a wardrobe but to strategically demolish part of the existing structure and expand the storage space by opening a non-load-bearing stud wall. The objective: create a seamlessly integrated, multi-functional media wall and wardrobe system that maximized every available inch within a rapid two-day installation timeline.
Phase 1:

Structural Demolition and Recess Opening
The existing wardrobe was a standard, “off-the-shelf” builder-grade cupboard that barely utilized the depth of the available recess. Our first challenge was structural opening.
The “Before” Problem
The initial site survey identified significant wasted internal space behind a plasterboard stud wall segment next to the window. In traditional Stanway homes, these stud walls are often installed generically, ignoring potential storage voids. A basic cupboard door gave access to a cramped internal space.
Executing the Open Plan
Our install team carefully demarcated the necessary plasterboard removal area to gain maximum width. We utilized high-powered localized extraction systems to contain debris while slicing through the stud wall structure and removing the old cupboard framework. The result was a fully open, wide recess ready for customized carcass engineering.
Phase 2

Rapid Carcass Engineering and Internal Optimisation
A key installer requirement for this master bedroom project was a tight, two-day turnaround for the entire “rip out and install” process. This meant our pre-manufacturing phase in the workshop had to be perfect.
Day 1 : The Fitment
By 11:00 AM on Day 1, the structural demolition was complete. Our focus shifted immediately to installing the precision-cut carcasses. Unlike standard flat-pack, which leaves structural gaps, Made2Measure joinery is built from high-density, moisture-resistant board, specifically scribed to the walls and ceiling of this specific Stanway property.
We engineered a dual-zone internal layout focused on user flow and accessibility:
Zone 2 (Centre Niche): Strategically positioned shelves to frame a dedicated media space.
Zone 1 (Left & Right Sections): Combining flexible, heavy-duty shelving stacks with solid polished chrome hanging rails.
Phase 3

Scribing, Media Integration, and Hand-Sprayed Finish
Day 2 focused entirely on the visible aesthetics and final integration. One of the primary installer notes was incorporating a dedicated area for the TV.
Scribing and Flush Detailing
Day 1: The Fitment
Media Niche Execution
We seamlessly integrated the user’s television into the central niche. This was not a mere “TV stand” on a shelf; we custom-framed the TV area with cabinetry, ensuring all wiring was hidden behind the moisture-resistant back panels. This layout allows for high-end aesthetic while maintaining easy access to ports. The specific “dusky green” carcass frames the wood-grain interior sections, creating a modern, sophisticated contrast.
The Final Result:
Floor-to-Ceiling Perfection
The seamless look is achieved this by extending the cabinetry precisely to the ceiling line and finishing it with an elegant traditional crown moulding cornice. The finished result uses symmetrical four-panel shaker doors in the same dusky green satin finish, completed with minimalist, matte black hardware handles.
